OK, so I finally got a Midland radio (about a hundred bucks from the store formerly known as Radio Shack) and a mag-mount antenna from the same place. Problem is, now I am wishing I had bought a fixed antenna as then I could run the wire forwards through to the hood as opposed to between/under the seats and out the rear hatch on my pathfinder. As well, the mag-mount won't work with a canoe on my roof (frequent enough).

The antenna will unscrew from the magnet base, so if someone sold a kit with an L bracket, I could just bolt it together and mount it in my hood.

So... is there such a kit, and where would I get it from?

Thanks,

Chris.

It depends on what kind of mount it is. NMO, NLA, etc. Check at The Source, Burnaby Radio, Freeway Communications (Abbotsford) or ComWest in Vancouver. You may be better off just purchasing another antenna. Personally, I prefere either Maxrad or Larsen steel whips.

You can get a mount at any of the places (except The Source) mentioned above. Don't forget to check the swr!

Thanks guys. Gonna check some out.

Asked the guy at The Source if they had any SWR meters. The guy thought I was asking about some sort of radar detector. Useless. Over new years I am going up to Kamloops then Salmon Arm where a buddy with piles of radio equipment is going to do the SWR thing to my antenna.

Thanks again.
