EX and i got out for the weekend to out the chase on some cats...our first chase was a Bobcat, our buddy released his two top hounds to see if they could sort the tracks out. They came up with nothing after running them back and forth. Maybe 20min down the road we find a fresh set of cougar tracks http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m117/BCHunter4Life/DSC04628.jpg?t=1165899687
We again take the two lead hounds on leash to see if they sort them out, when they had it EX dumped the remaining hounds out of the box. Maybe 20-30minutes later we had it treed.

wow thats crazy, should use one dog and let it fight the cat! Seems like cheating to me. Let the dog scare the **** out of it so you can have an easy target. I have no real problem with hunting myself, but this way is like shooting fish in a barrel.
Sorry not used to seeing peolpe hunt cats.... I moved here from Nova Scotia...
What do you do with them? Good meat?
And what do you do with a dead Bobcat?

So wait...you have a problem with shooting a treed cat but would let a cat and a hound fight to the death? Oh wait, you are from Nova Scotia.......:shakehead:

hahahaha yeah I wouldent mind because at least BOTH would have a fair chance.
I have no problem with people shooting dear, you know go HUNT a dear, but when some one JACKS a dear there is a problem. you know NOT hunting. I just feel this is the same thing. And me being from Nova Scotia has nothing to do with it, I was just saying I am not used to seeing people hunt....... Cats.. haha
There is none in NS. Or atleast never heard of anyone hunting a cat.
Can you hunt Kitty cats any other way? Like track them yourself? Or is the only way with dogs?

Well, people(Myself included)hunt coyotees too. If you don't do it I can't really explain it to you. It's very exciting. Most people keep the pelt. It's not like a deer where you find one and shoot it. Coyotees are very smart, and very fast. You have to be super fast as they are running and usually far away when you see them, most times where I hunt them they are 500-700 yards away when you spot them. No point even getting of the quad for that. When you do get one it's usually 300 yards or better away. And running. Fast. And they are smaller than most people realize. Sometimes I see 15 or more in a day(I'm talking 0600 untill dark) and if you are lucky half of those are close enough to shoot at.
Lots of people have a problem with this, but it's pretty poular. Coyotees, bobcat, lynx and cougar are commonly taken and there is no legal requirement to remove any of the "Edible portions" like there is with deer etc

our first chase was a Bobcat,:cwm25:
so if your dogs would have found it for you and you had it trapped in a tree and you shot it, what would you have done with it?
I know that pic of that cat is not a bobcat.
overthetop, hunting coyotees does sound like a good time, but the point you are missing on that one is YOU chase the dog around and track it, I am sure you do not run the dog up the tree so you can hit it... But I have never hunted a dog so I have no idea if you also trap those in a tree, :cwm25:
Its not the point if you do not eat it or what ever you do with it, make a rug, what ever but all I am saying here is it seems pointless to just trap it in a tree with a bunch of dogs, than just shoot it. Cant be too hard to hit one of those big cats in a tree. But hey it must be fun to some people because I am sure more people than just you do it. :canadian

lets think about this... 50-70lb dog vs 150-220lb cat
the dog has teeth, the cat has teeth and claws...
im sorry but thats like putting a featherweight in with mike tyson and tyson is bareknuckle boxing.
not much of a fair fight if you ask me.
the reason you tree a cougar is because it is so increadibly difficult to find and chase them, you have to have the dogs find them and chase them for you.
Im not a cat hunter myself but i can understand it.
As for hunting coyotes for fun, i just hunt them to keep them from killin my buddies rabits and chickens:redneck

no kidding! haha thats why I said it..... Neither is having 10 dogs and two men case one cat in a tree for an easy shot. Thats what I was getting at.
I remeber when I was young the town would pay you so much $$ for each coyote you would kill. Up to so many though out the town. People would kill so many than the city would stop paying for them, or it was only for a span of a few weeks.

why are you reading a hunting thread if you have a problem with it Limited? i`m not big on cat hunting myself but as long as theres a quick clean kill who am I to judge.

all I do is bowhunt, and argue with retards on the internet.
who are you to judge his hunting practices?

Don't sweat it. As long as there is hunting there will be ......bleeding hearts.... complaining about it in one way or another. Who cares what everyone else thinks as long as your hunting practices are within the law.
And arguing on the internet is like running in the special olympics. Even if you win you are still retarted.

Limited you ever tried to train a dog to do that? Does'nt seem to easy after you spend a year training your dog.

I would find it hards to snuff a cat just cause i own kitties at home. But then again if i had no gun it was coming down on me yeah i would snuff it, I know what they have capability of doing to us and it would be pretty freaking cool to have a mounted cat like that or just a pelt laying at home with the kitty on it....
I would love to come out with you guys one day what does it cost to get a cat not stuffed but as a rug?
