You want a real horn, get one of the airhorns off a boat. I saw a vid on youtube with a guy who had one mounted underneath his truck (the thing was like 6 feet long). Probably illegal, but nice and loud. Strip the paint off the next car to cut you off.

Complete kits, transport truck or train, are huge dollars, but I have a York system, I just need the horn and a valve.

Can't wait to get it working.

those are the typical "truckstop" train whistles, the real deal ones are in the thou$and$ IIRC
there is a website that sells them and he also puts video online on those time waster sites of scaring pedestrians with a real train horn in a black CrownVic or Marauder.
edit- here is that idiots website...http://www.hornblasters.com/

The real deal also requires an air tank as large as the bed of your truck to power it.

There are plenty of good quality replica's available though that have a good volume and sound quality.

OK, this is what I'm in for so far;

$35 for the horn, $45 for the selenoid valve, $19 for fittings and air lines.

All I need now is a switch, either one that looks good on my dash or has "Panic" written on it !

Sounds real nice but need more decibels. The horn is unreal loud when I use my air hose direct. The selenoid valve is a 1/8th inch bore, need to upgrade to something bigger !

I have seen a couple of pictures of setups that have a ball valve in cab for air horns. Sounds interesting as you can control the amount of air by how far you open the ball valve. Probably be a cheaper setup as well.

I know train hornes are illegal in US but what about canada? I have often though of putting a air horn under my vehicle and aim it at the idiots who want to prevent me from changing lanes.

BTW this was interesting the other day. A large late chevy 4x4 was 2 car lengths behind me and started to speed up to pass me when I turned on my blinkers but may have had second thoughts when he saw how rough looking my 4x4 was and did not want to take chances. He braked to the same speed limit again and allowed me to switch lanes. This is rare here in BC. You see it alot more often in the states where people only think of them selves.

If you have air capabilities, (tank supply ie.) find a horn off of a newer CAT 14H Grader.

your kidding right jollygreen? to say drivers down here are less considerate then the ones in the lower mainland, people can`t drive for sh!t up there, and on a road system designed with 1950`s population numbers in mind.

Brian,

Sorry ment to say the drivers in the states are less considerate. This was a first case but mabey its happened before. If people would not scedule so many things in there life where its rush rush rush then thay would not be in such a hurry on the road. Life up here is a bit more relaxed then in the states...thankfully.

In my experience, (5 years of driving truck) we have some of the worst drivers out there, all packed into the lower mainland! I don't know if I would agree with the comment about people being more relaxed here either, when your out on the road, almost nobody is relaxed, its a race from stoplight to stoplight everywhere you go.
Every major metropolitan area seems to have a lot of bad drivers, but thats statistics really. The big difference I find is when your a little out of town, BC drivers still suck, but when your a little out of town in the states, it seems like everybody on the road gets the respect they deserve from other drivers.

Gosh guys, didn't want to start a war of words on who are the worse drivers ! You guys have to try rush hour in Bangkok, KL or something !

Hey BumpNSpin, good to know Lordco has some larger diameter solenoid valves. Changing mine today !

Rattle, I'd like to have a ball valve setup but, not sure how to make it look good in the cab.

Hey Luc, Tie it to the "OH JESUS" handle located above your left ear while driving...

Luc, I have one that I never did use; paid $30 but $10 takes it away.

Thanks for the offer Chris. My horn came with a manual valve, so I'm set if I decide to make a change. How long is the activation stroke of the valve ?

Rattle, I like the idea of the valve by the "Oh Jesus" handle, will look at it tonight.

Luk,

I heard indians from india are down right dangerous. If thay are driving a bigger vehicle then yours and pass someone on a two lane road thay will not stop and will run you right off the road if your in the oposite lane. BTW, where do most of the crashes per mile exist in the lower mainland? I have had WAY to many near misses here then seattle. Any comments?

Luc

Only was in India for 12 hours, but, in Asia in general, it comes down to GVW, the bigger the more "interesting" the driving gets !!!

Yah Babe !!! Got it hooked up properly now ! Increased the hose size to 5/ 16th's and found a nice little black switch at Alpi's ! Going to finalise the install tomorrow. Sounds awesome !!!

I was working on a yacht in Italy that had this as a horn.

How's that for "bling"?

Hard to get scale with that shot, but the biggest one is about 2 feet long. I dunno if my 17amp, 12volt air compressor has enough volume for it though...

Mine are grey, weathered and hidden under the hood !

Wish I could post a picture, but, lost my camera cable.
