What's the scoop?

I guess it takes some time fore them to make a plate? How much extra fee? (if any)

$18 for a change of plate fee one time only.

Took a couple of weeks for my plate to be made.

All they needed was a photocopy of my license with call sign.

AND hope that you get a person that knows what they are doing at the counter. Most of the Auto plan twits didn't know anything about HAM plates and wanted to charge me 100 personal number plate fee. Like usual thier form isn't worded clear enough on the back for them to figure it out.

If they don't know they call ICBC and they will walk them through it.

Thats what you'd think but the lady at autoplan I was dealing with called ICBC and who ever she talked to said that it was $100 and she returned my paperwork till I paid or got a number for someone at ICBC that said I was right. So the next day I did her job for her and talked to the lady incharge of PNP and she said I was right, so I got her name and direct number and went back to the autoplan with a postit on the paperwork. It got processed and then I had to wait 8 weeks for the plates to show up.

Sounds like you got the run around. I must have gotten lucky because my autoplan didn't know beans but when they phoned ICBC they must have gotten someone that knew about it.

I got it ordered. It will cost me $18 when it shows up.

Its the same form as for personalized plates, but you tick different boxes and fill out a different section. Then mail it in.

Boy, things have sure gotten better than when I got mine about 10 years ago. It seems to me that it was $25 and I'm sure it took about 2 months for them to arrive.
Of course I live in the boonies, 100 Mile House.

I'm not quite sure what you're asking here, but you don't have to get a plate. Its up to you. You do need to have a IC Ham basic licence and call sign though to apply for a plate.
