On this Saturday, November 11, the Four Wheel Drive Association of British Columbia will be holding our monthly Sunrise Lake/Hale Creek maintenance run. We meet at 9:30am at the Sasquatch Inn (approximately 30kms east of Mission on Hwy 7) and depart from there at 10:00 (SHARP!). This month we will be heading to the Hale Creek recreation site to perform initial site upgrades under the newly signed agreement we hold in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism, Sports and the Arts. The Hale Creek site is accessible by any stock 4x4 vehicle and all are welcome to attend.

The Ministry is providing us with a number of picnic tables, fire rings, bear-proof garbage bins, signs and a new outhouse for the site (and in fact has delivered some of this gear to the site already), but we need YOUR help this weekend!!!! We'll be building 5-6 picnic tables, installing fire-rings to go with the tables and building/installing the new outhouse. While there is a possibility that the contractor engaged by the Ministry (who will be on site on Saturday to deliver the remaining supplies) will be able to transport a backhoe to the site to help, this has not been confirmed. The contractor's initial inspection of the roads resulted in some reluctance to bring a machine down to the site due to poor road conditions -- and therefore we may need to hand-dig a hole for the sealed-sump culvert outhouse. Please bring gloves and a shovel!!!!!!!

Upon completion of the Hale Creek work effort, we will proceed to Sunrise Lake for end-of-season cleanup of that site.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to drop me a note.

See you on Saturday!

I'll be there with my woolies on.

My little girl has decided to let me go.....note how at 7 weeks she already appears to be wanting to drive her Dad's Jeep (I know I'll be regretting it when she's older, but for now it's kinda cute):

We had a great turn-out of people with lots of helping hands. We had 'lost' some of the picnic tables that were dropped off by the Ministry to some folks who thought their hot-tub fire needed stoking, but they were kind (and honest) enough to contribute some money to the Association, to allow us to work towards replacing the 6 tables that were burned.

Because of the rain, we've got to plan another day to get the painting done, but there is now a functional out-house (it'll look much better once painted), tables and fire-rings in place.

The bear-proof garbage container ought help to keep the litter more centralized.

I hope that the users of the site will come to appreciate that the Four Wheel Drive Association of BC (with Steve Dillen leading this particular cause) has accepted a lot of responsibility in contracting to maintain this high-use area. It was done to keep the site free and ungated. We will be erecting signage shortly warning users that it is 4-wheel drive access only (or boat...:D) as even the 'easy' road has deteriorated somewhat with the recent rain.

I only took a few pictures, but I'm sure others will have some to link/post in time:
