UPS, or should I say: OOPS rant.

So I buy rare automotive parts from e-bay as probably most of us do.

Most of the time I request the shippers to use US post or Purolator. They attempt to deliver it once, put the sticker on my door and I can pick it up in Shopper Drugmart 2 minuts away from my place. No border charges, brokers and other crap.

This time I forgot to specify "no ****n UPS"!!!

I bougth a $20 item +$8shipping +exhange + 31 bux off my Visa. Pretty cool considering its an ECU for my rare car.

So I see a sticker on the door. I'm like: where can I pick it up? There is no adress, time or any other info....
Next day there is another sticker. They marked that they will be in my are again next day after 2PM. So I leave work early, get home like: 2.20PM. There is another sticker: "Final attempt".

Oh, did I mention that there is a charge of $80 bux of broker fee???

FCUK!!! My 31 dollar computer is 111 dollars already.

Today i get home I phone the stupid 1 800 number. The lady tells me I'm lucky, cause they were just about to send it back. I'm like: you said it's lucky? Normally I would already have it 2 days ago and free!!!

So i'm: Where can I pick it up?

Her: Anaciss island (I live 45 minuts away from there, you gotta be kiddin!)

Me: When R U open?
Her Mon - Fri 2PM-8PM

Me: Great, I was just there today. It only happens once in blue moon I'm on frigging Anacis, it had to be today - Friday the 13th. I phone you (UPS) when I returned from an hour traffic escapade!!! WTF?
Can I pick it up today?

Her: No, it's still on the truck.

Me: Didn't you say you were going to send it back? WTF? Now it's still on the truck? WTF?

Her: I can hold it there for you for two days:

Me: And then what?

Her: It goes back, because it was undeliverable?

Me: But I'm here!!!! I even left my god damn work early yesterday!!! I'm here and you can deliver it or leave it somwhere else!!!!!!

Her: I'll hold it for you sir, it should have already been returned. You're lucky.

Me: K. Bye.

Now I have to drive to the damn Annacis Island, so they can rape me of 80 bux, so I can consider myself lucky!!!

Jibbus frigen Kraist!!!

Please do not use UPS people.

I'll throw in my 2 cents.

UPS is bull**** for the "brokerage thing" but all in all they do a pretty good job.

I have worked for UPS...........

It goes like this., you have a run that coveres a certain area. some days you have little to deliver some days you are buried in packages.

I never spent more than the time it took to write the note before I left the door.

I just wonder why you didn't phone the first time you got a note? If you would have you could have had the package delivered to your work or where there was someone to sign for it.

UPS has the 3 attempt rule......Purolator has 1 as does Postal, dunno about DHL but I think it's 1 attempt.

Ya gotta remember that the UPS guy might be buried with freight AND have half a van full of 2nd and 3rd attempts, He just doesn't have time to mess around. BTW the ups guy also doesn't get pain for an attempt, he only see's money when it's actually in your hands or it goes back.

Not alot of incentive for a driver to wait too long at the door etc. I would work with regular deliveries but the others got 1 2 3 back so I could get paid.

Don't hate the driver............hate the company;)

I work for a major courier company. I dont really understand the $80 broker fee. Yes my company does have broker fees as well but 80 bucks on a $20 part? Dont make sense. If customs got ahold of it they would of charged you duty/tax on the item then ups would have charge a few bucks for paying it for you ahead of time so it does not get held at the boarder. It really depends on how much the sender but down for its value. If they put down 20 bucks it should not be that much.

I know with my company if you asked very nicely they would attempt the delivery again or if you called right away somtimes they can catch the driver before he/she leaves the area.

Oh, absolutely. I hope I didn't sound mad at the driver. Its the UPS corporation that seems to be lazy, disorganised, greedy and lacking any sh!t giving.

I had an annoying UPS screw up a while ago. Cost me a bunch of money to go to the airport UPS, and then pay GST at customs, and then UPS gives me stuff that wasnt mine.

Three weeks later, UPS calls me and wants it back. I said sure, you just pay me my three hours lost wages, my fuel costs, the GST I paid at customs to pick this stuff up, and you can come pick it up at my convenience.

Nope, uh uh, no way, they were not going to give me one cent for my trouble, he said to send along the receipt for the GST and they'll see what they can do about that, but they were not going to cut me a cheque under any circumstances, they could only offer free shipping.

I hate UPS with a vengance. It is to the point where I won't ship ANYTHING with them if it requires crossing the border. Brokerage fees, my ass!

Another thing I hate? TRAFFIC. Cambie is a bloody mess! Now that I live out of the Lower Mainland, I don't know how I put up with the commmute to Vancouver for five years. Y'all deserve a round of applause for not putting a tire iron through some windsheilds and tail lights.

That's why I truck outside the Fraser Valley, my blood pressure and road rage levels raise to dangerous levels somewhere around the Sumas exit and don't lower until I get east of there again. Its a very good thing I have rather good patience for idiot drivers (for the most part), albeit the Albertan I happened across last night about 10:30 pm heading west just east of Chase got a whole lot of airhorns and all 670 watts of driving lights my truck has to offer after he slowed to 60 km/h all of a sudden at the bottom of a hill because he was "scared" of the road (to put it in simple terms, I have a set of Jetco 110w (2x55w bulbs each) driving lights in the bumper, four 65w highbeams, and a set of 100w Lightforce 170s up on the mirror brackets. It is literally like daylight for about 250 meters in front of me). I'm usually pretty good with incompetant drivers but I do occasionally lose it... :redneck

ups sucks, they charged me 60$ to send a very light 2x2 box all of 80 miles then charged the reciever another 50$ or so in brokerage charges.

DOWN WITH UPS!!!

they do good down here though

DHL transport sucks too: same reasons.
Dumbest thing was when a part I'd ordered from Vancouver to Forest Grove had been re-addressed by DHL to the local fire dpeartment! Never did figure that one out. Doubt they could have used it.

So ... anybody know any carriers who aren't worthless, over-charging, lazy idiots?

UPS must work better for businesses and such that have a storefront that's open regular business hours to receive shipments.

I will not buy cross-border unless I can establish a proven fixed-cost shipping/brokerage routine beforehand. As a result, most things I want to buy cost as much/more to bring in than the purchase price.... so I don't bother at all.

Buy Canadian. :canadian

UPS always charges you Duty. Most items are not eligable for duty. I do not know of any countries that are charged duty anymore although I am sure there are some as they still have a column for duty charges on my Canada customs forms. I do know for a fact that products made in the following countires dont get charged duty: Korea, USA, China, Japan, Taiwan.

Ups will charge you duty anyway, at which point you must lodge a formal complaint to get your money back. They bank on the fact that most people either don't know anything about this or that it is to much trouble for most people to go through to get the 10 or 20 bucks back. I stopped using UPS years ago for this reason and because of the rediculous brokerage fees. I now just ship to an address in Pt Roberts and pick it up myself.

If you abseloutly must ship to your door then ship USPS. It will take a long time and it wont get shoved through the border as fast as a UPS shipment but there is no brokerage and they wont try to rip you off with the duty.

If that package was $20 they aren't supposed to charge you a cent for brokerage. See here (http://www.ups.com/content/ca/en/shipping/cost/zones/customs_clearance.html) I would bet the seller didn't know what the hell he was doing and put the wrong amount on the shipping invoice. I use UPS for most things I buy down south as USPS has size restrictions, or so I'm told. I try and avoid them if I can but so far I have only had 1 crappy run in with them.

The seller claimed 200USD value.
This meeans I paid 15 bux in just PST for a 22CAD item!!!

I dealt with them yesterday. The dude at the desk was useless. I had to phone some 1-800 number. The chick sounded like a fukcing machine.

I told them that it would be cheaper for me to not pick it up, so they can return it to sender and the package be re-sent via USPS or Purolator. I told them that this is a frigging embaresment for them. They said they would have to charge the sender all of the charges if he was to receive it back and when i asked themwhat the total charge would be they were NOT ABLE TO GIVE ME A QUOTE! They said that they would send it and charge duty and taxes and fees to go back to US + what I owed them!!! But they could give me a quote on total charge. WTF???!!!

I said that in that case it's even more embarrasing for them because it would actually be cheper for me and the sender to never worry about this package, have UPS shove it up their arses.

I could simply go and buy another 20USD item, have it shipped USPS and still save 40bux. How do they expect to have repeated customers?

How Ghay?!?

I told them this is the last time I am dealing with them ever. Of course the "machine sounding" lady did not seem concerned 1 bit and thank me for using UPS.

I said that I didn't and never will and FU. :angry

I well understand what happened with the declared value.

I got sh!t sent from all ova US via USPS or purolator, I had packages worth twice that from Germany, sent via BundesPost and had no ridiculas charges attatched to them.
All I'm saying is that twice when UPS was involved I was charged multiple value of my item in ghey charges!

I am not disagreeing with you, just saying that I will no longer use UPS so I don't have to be in this situation - rigth or wrong.

As a shipper for a wholesale sporting goods company, I spend about $100 000/year shipping stuff. Last year and this year UPS got $0. We have customers who want stuff shipped UPS and we tell them it can't be done. If I set up a UPS account and ship something, I have to ship again within 30 days or they will close the account due to lack of use! Nice way to treat a customer.

Purolator has been very good to us within Canada and pretty good into the US. FedEx used to be very good worldwide, but recently have screwed up the last few shipments into the US.

I used to ship all across Canada, but now just to BC and AB. You can say what you want about who is the best, but when it comes down to it, it doesn't matter who you use; Fed-Ex, Purolator, DHL etc.........they all suck! And when you have to ship across the border...look out, it gets even better!

A bit off topic.
I'm looking for a new snowboard on e-bay. Most of the sellers are from the states. Do ya think I should get it shipped to my house or to a place just over the border? LOL, I noticed that most sellers use UPS, I now tell them I don't want them to use UPS.
