I tried getting home for Thanksgiving dinner last night but it never worked out (for getting a load out of Calgary)... So, what did we all do? Had a big drivers thanksgiving dinner over at Dennys then proceeded to get completely wasted afterwards at the bar here in the Road King Truck Stop... But now its a matter of trying to clear the fog from my head so I can get this Walmart load to Delta by tomorrow morning :laugh Ah well, at least we had fun I guess. Cheers and a happy gobble gobble. Yeah, most are at least licenced. The Road King has an alright little bar (Shifters) which has $3.60 beers and cheaper shots so 4 boilermakers and 13 beers cost me well under $70 including tip. And for the record Brian, that's real beer not the watered down stuff down south :laugh I still didn't get home but I did get a decent TG meal at the Skyline TS in Craigellachie (basically, I was the last one to order so they put all the rest on my plate which was A LOT to say the least). All in all it worked out alright, but it'd be nice if you'd all start buying at Walmart ASAP so work'll start picking up for us :clown

hahaha Yeah, no doubt eh?

Well, it is Canada after all (I seen a survey once stating the 1 in 5 Canadians have or will grab "one" for the road). Drinking is pretty relaxed up here, and having run down south for several years I do know how tight they are down there about alcohol. Mind you, there are a lot of TS's that sell it from their drink coolers down south and you can only buy it from a liquor store up here (or off sales from a pub), never a 2 sec run down to the local corner store. But, yes, it is illegal to have alcohol in a commercial vehicle in the States unless it is your cargo, whereas up here its not (it is against company policy though). But mind you, if the RCMP or DOT ever seen any empties in your truck you may be doing some quick explaining, though..

Another interesting thing is that companies cannot mandate drug testing for their drivers up here, only for US bound drivers. All of our drivers get random testing but if we are Canada only drivers legally they cannot require it :confused2 ony for the US drivers... I thought that was wierd.

yeah well their not as crazy about weed up there, I don`t partake but if anyone else does I could care less.

I heard a story last week about you guys up there adopting our HOS rules, hear anything about that? I know you guys get a few more hours of driving time up there as it is now.

I've taken the commercial truck ferry between Ireland and the UK many times which is set up for the big rigs mostly.
You get on board and sail at 8 pm untill roughly six in the morning and the karaoke BAR is open all night with its only customers being the truckers and they drive off in the morning?????

Yeah, but that's Ireland :D Like anything else there's an extreme few who take it too far out here with booze, but most guys I've come across are really good about it (get a good 8 hour sleep in and breaky before going anywhere after drinking). We do like to party pretty hard but that stems from a job that requires you to be away from home/family/friends for weeks on end and you're basically on duty 24/7 when on the road babysitting the load. It can be an extremely stressful job dealing with traffic and load schedules and customers/dispatchers/shippers who can be complete pricks at times. My job's pretty slack as 90% of our loads are pre-loaded and most of our customers are top notch. Plus now being Canada only makes things a whole lot simpler not dealing with customs.

Yup, we've always had pretty much the same for HOS rules albeit we're still on the old system but its 13 hours driving and 8 hours off (70 hours in 8 days, or 120 hours in 14 days which is basically the 60 hr/7 day thing but you need to take 24 hours off before your 75th hour), but we're basically waiting for the US to figure out the final rules for the new HOS reg's and then we're adopting those as well, but with a few minor changes (36 hour reset vs the US 34 hour reset, and I believe still 13 hours driving and a total of 14 hours on duty then 10 hours off vs the US 11 hours driving).

We're always about 5 years behind it seems up here in Canada and the industry shows that because its still pretty relaxed trucking up here as east of BC there's very few scales until you hit Ontario. They just built a big new POE scale in Golden complete with pre-pass and cameras and I believe Kamloops and Hope are supposed to get that as well, so BC's starting to look like the I-5 scale-wise. Up north and Hwy 3 should probably stay mostly unaffected besides the Prince George, Tete Jeune Cache and Yahk scales which may eventually get pre-pass as well. Most RCMP and DOT don't get too excited as long as your logbook looks legal and your equipment's in good shape. I really haven't had too many issues up here as most everyone's pretty laid back. LR
