View Full Version : Anyone else sick?

I'm not one to get sick usually, over a winter I may get a sore throat and the sniffles when others are full out flu.

But, my girlfriend got sick...she lives in Van. And it started with a sore throat and progressed but shes getting better off of nyquil/dayquil.

I however, just started getting a sore throat so I hit it like usual, lots of hot drinks, hot showers. I did not however do the usual "sweat it out" till this morning when I threw the heating pad in my bed.

I bought some cepacol throat spray which doesn't really work for my symptoms, because my throat isn' that raspy sore you get with a cold anymore, it's like a swollen kind of pain, I checked my through and there is no film, no white whatever (like suggested for strep/mono/etc. It's just tender sore.

But the kicker is my g/f complained she felt like throwing up...which I contributed to being sick. But if like me , that's not the case. LAst night as I Was laying in bed I got the same feeling, like
something in my throat was triggering the reflex of wanting to throw up even though I felt fine in that sense.

I was at city hall yesterday and a few staff seemed to be carrying the common cold. But I Can't for the life of me understand my symptoms...I read some stuff on just sore throats and was recommened to ibuprofren/acetomphine. So I did, this is just a bizarre cold though, If I could just get rid of the actual "ache" in my throat I'd be fine...so bizarre. Just wondering if others have this symptoms for this seasons colds. I didn't get this frommy g/f since she's 8 hours away. I just thought her symptom of feeling like throwing up like I was getting was weird.

heh guess your immune system needs to rebound from all the toxins in smoke...of course it prbably made a hostile environment for the bacteria as well...

the only relief I get is from constantly sipping super hot drinks and gargling hot water int he shower...the advil worked wonders for the pain though...bloody weird cold symptoms...

I'm a firm believer in sweating out a cold...but this cold rainy weather we've been getting makes it hard to stay hot.

i`m all for sweating it out, a little whiskey and a couple bayer aspirin usually does it for me, unfortunately its been getting cold and I work outside at night...

I started to feel it in my throat yesterday morning. Full-on runny nose and feeling like crap today. No nausea at all.

I guess my wife just caught it now... she started throwing up immediately.

I was on a huge not-sick streak. Usually a get a couple of summer colds - but not this year. Been fine since April until now. :soso

This morning I thought I was sick. Stuffed up, swollen throat, runny nose, red eyes.

After a hot shower, I was fine.

Return to the bedroom, and notice the cat hair on my bed.

Damn cats, they both know they're not allowed in my bed, one of them snuck in during the night at some time.

I used to be really sick all the time, I would miss 2-3 days a month of work off sick.

Left that Job in May, after just over twelve years.

I havent been sick one day since.

Hmmmmmm.............

I wonder if I should be looking for some retroactive WCB for all my lost wages over the past twelve years, aparently that place made me sick.

Maybe the g/f is experiencing morning sickness...

Everyone at work is sick. So far I'm holding up ok. I owe it all to washing my hands a million times a day and sanitizing work surfaces often.

VITAMIN C!!!!

I was starting to feel a sickness coming.. throat sore, nose stuffy.. and on my dad's wisdom I took 4 500mg vitamin pills for a couple days and I didn't get sick this time around..

Apparently he's been holding off colds this way for the longest time..

so try it.. it works..

I never understood the whole thing with Vit C... If you take more then your body requires, you're literally pissing your money down the drain. And the daily recommended dose is like 500mg -1000mg. But you're right, you need to take it BEFORE you get sick.

Just make sure you eat decently and get enough SLEEP. And wash your hands copiously through the day (that inlcludes after peeig, boys...)!

Of course they have to wash their hands, foo (if hands is what you meant by "themselves"...)! It's just in one study I read, only 14% of males wash their hands after using the facilities. That be gross. And that be another reason why I have waterless hand sanitizer.

It's not the pee, it should be sterile (unless left standing) unless you have a bladder infection. But your penis, the flush handle, door handle, door knob, aren't.

Last year i had that cold/ Like a trigger in the throat like you were gonna puke all the time. It was boderline bronchitis. Coffing crap up couldn't hoark up a goober It seemed to pass very easy from one person to the next if you worked with the sick one for a day! And it took months to get rid of because i work outdoors...

Im lookng at ColdFX for this year its a vitamin im gonna load up on the stuff..
Im not looking forwards to getting sick but im already running my sorry ass down real good working a million hobbies all at once

I tried that Cold FX and never agian it affects your nervous system and it took months to get the crap out of my system.

Myself I take vitamin C it works you have to watch it can give you the sh!ts.

I felt a little crappy the other day I had a dry throat and plugged up nose took some vitamin C it went away. I'am going to keep taking vitamin C all through the winter again. I stopped during the summer.

If you take allot of V-C you need to drink more water as "C" is water soluble.

As for washing your hands you should wash them every time you leave the washroom. It doesn't matter if you take a pee or poo you should wash. Part of my job is cleaning public washrooms I have seen people with sh!t on their fingers and they touch the launch handle on the toilet its on the stall door.

I always wash my hands before I eat or if I know I touched anything that someone else has. You never know people have feces under their finger nails and they don't know it. Allot of the old people don't have good vision they can see whats on their hands.

Listen closely young grasshoppa...

You flush the toilet with your foot. Pratice yoga if your balance sucks. Then you get a wad of paper towels and shove it under your armpits. Then you wash your hands as normal and leave the water running as you dry your hands off, then using the paper towel as a barrier, you turn off the water. Then you use the paper towel to open the door to exit the bathroom and either chuck it on the floor or throw it in the trash and hold the door open with your foot. Acrobatics comes in handy.

Anywho, not to change the topic....back to the topic, but its some kind of mutant/hybrid cold flu from hell! I think I got it from my Dad.
His symptoms were dizziness, sore throat/cough and headache. I got it from him and then I gave it to my GF.
I have never been that constantly dizzy in my life. I had to leave work out of fear of killing/maiming myself with the torch or grinder. I never got stuffed up or a sore throat but just as I thought I was over it I got crazy sick to my stomach. I felt like puking for about 12 hours straight. I took today off work and I am feeling better but I have been pissing out my ass about every 10-15 minutes for the last 2 hours!

I called my dad and he ended up having the same thing happen on the last day, all of a sudden just when you think your over it, your stomach gets sick.

Are you still dizzy? If you are, sounds like an inner ear infection, which you would need abx for.

Otherwise, sounds like the flu and maybe a cold virus double whammy. Check if you have a fever. If you do, take some trusty Tylenol. Get Gravol for the nausea (or if you keep puking, Gravol suppositories. Ask your GF to insert. Ha ha...). If you have sick poo (aka butt juice, runny poo, toilet splatter...), go to a clinic and get a shot of Gravol. Drink a crap load of water. Thins the crud in your chest making it easier to hack up and keeps mucous membranes moist while constantly wiping your nose. Stick to clear fluids since milk/ oj makes snot even more gross. Also keeps you hydrated from the constant toilet use. If you're puking/crapping real bad, drink some Gatorade just to make sure your lytes are ok...

Oh, and get someone to look in your throat to make sure there aren't streaks or dots of puss. You'll need abx if that is the case.
But I doubt it is. Probably just a big fat virus that you could have avoided getting by simply washing your hands!

Try being stuck in Quesnel Canyon on the NCORA thingy and being on horrible antibiotics for an animal inflicted wound, not knowing side effects of such drugs, and having it on both ends. Trying to barf/crap quietly while surrounded by tents in the bush or having a dude wait impatiently outside the outhouse while you're inside just wanting to let it rip was very traumatic... Wish I was home in my own bathroom so I could be as farty as I wanted to (and also have a pleasent aromatherapy candle handy)...

Buckley's has ammonia in it. Yummy.

I don't usually take anything (since I can't remember the last time I had a temp, in which case I'd acetaminophen it). Water, and if I'm stuffy, euculyptus oil (to inhale, not ingest).

And for the fathers out there, Vic Vapo Rub is for topical use only (on the chest). Apparenly many kids die every year from fathers (and probably some mothers too) giving it internally...

I was gettin sick, then I got the weekend off after god knows how many weeks straight of 16 hour days, apparently the cure for the common cold is severe depression, 1700$ of crown and coke and working on a bike.
